Bonus Point Home Win

09/04/2017

TEENAGE winger Thomas Rogers was the star of the show as Llanelli racked up eight tries in a crushing win over Bargoed at Parc y Scarlets.
The 18-year-old was at the double, as was No.8 Jack Condy, as the Sospans moved above Bridgend and Neath into third in Tier Two of the Principality Premiership.
Llanelli have just one match remaining – at leaders Newport on April 29 – with five clubs, including Cross Keys, realistically vying for four spots while the sides around Llanelli do have the advantage of games in hand.
The visitors, playing their first league match for four weeks, started brightly with full-back James Hallett missing the chance to put them on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when his penalty attempt from out wide on the right fell short.
It was Llanelli who scored the first try of the match in the 29th minute, with centre Steff Hughes going over in the left-hand corner while fly-half Ioan Hughes converted from out wide.
They were over again a minute later through left wing Rogers, although this time the conversion attempt was missed.
Now firmly in the ascendency, try number three soon followed from Condy who powered over in the 36th minute, with Ioan Hughes taking care of the easy extras in front of the sticks.
Shell-shocked Bargoed simply had no answer to Llanelli’s power, particularly down the left-hand side and, in the 37th minute, full-back Kalum Evans was sent darting away for the bonus point try, which was once again converted to make it 26-0 at the break.
Condy got his second try before right wing Tom Williams got in on the act five minutes later, with both scores again converted to make it 40-0.
Lloyd Pike and Rogers added further scores to complete a thoroughly convincing win for the Sospans.
Bryce Morgan scored a late consolation try for Bargoed.
Llanelli – Tries: S Hughes, T Rogers (2), J Condy (2), K Evans, T Williams, L Pike; Cons: I Hughes (6)
Bargoed – Try: B Morgan; Con: J Hallett.
