On a very pleasant evening at the Arms Park it was the home side that took the spoils with a fine 45 - 20 win. The game was played in excellent spirit and resulted in 10 tries being scored on the night. It was the visitors who started well, dominating possession but could not turn pressure into points and quickly paid a high price. Two tries in the space of two minutes saw Cardiff open up a 14pt advantage. First it was hooker Nathan Huish crossed following a five meter lineout and almost immediately outside half Gareth Thompson snapped up loose ball to score the second try of the game. Llanelli got on the scoresheet next, a series of phases close to the Cardiff line resulted in a penalty which debutant Ashley Sutton, on permit from Newcastle Emlyn calmly slotted between the posts. Then just before the half ended, wing Amil Jiwa Walji finished of a nice break to score Cardiff's 3rd try. At the half, Cardiff 21 - 3 Llanelli.
Right from the restart Cardiff got their 4th and bonus point try. A charge down followed by a couple of pick and go and Nathan Huish was again on hand to complete the touchdown. That seemed to trigger Llanelli into action and they dominated the third quarter scoring two tries, first from Ryan Davies and then skipper Nathan Hart, Sutton slotted one conversion and all of a sudden 26-15 it was Llanelli that starting asking questions of the Cardiff defence. But, a loose pass was intercepted by centre three quarter Adam Jones who ran under the posts to calm the home sides nerves. But, back came Llanelli, another debutant Elgan Lewis, on permit from Brecon was at the back of a rolling maul to cross for Llanelli's 3rd try. But try as they did, the result was settled in the final five minutes when Cardiff crossed for two further tries. In the end, the scoreline perhaps flattered the home side as Llanelli continued to throw the ball around up until the final whistle.
